Mia Stephenson is an artist and metalsmith based in Seattle, Washington.
As a child in the drizzly PNW, Mia could always be found with a sketchbook in hand or at work on one of her many ongoing creative projects. She practiced many media throughout her education and after graduating from Santa Clara University, most often working in two-dimensional visual arts. On a visit to a rock and gem shop in the mountains of Colorado in 2011, Mia discovered a three-inch diameter Pyrite dollar that inspired her first foray into metalsmithing.
Since then, Mia has spent over a decade at the bench, running her jewelry business - OHME Shop - since 2015. Her work for OHME is bold, thoughtful, and playful, inspired by her love of maximalism, her feminist ideals, and her belief in the power of adornment and self expression.
In the spring of 2022, Mia decided to step back from her business in order to get back to the joy of creating as a personal practice. She spends time in her studio now seeking out the excitement and magic of discovering a new process, incorporating lapidary and powder coating to create one of a kind, dramatic pieces.
You will still find her at the occasional pop-up market, and Mia may soon offer workshops on a one-on-one or small group basis.
